The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (6-4-5) and Arizona United SC (4-5-4) tied 1-1 on the midweek match between the two clubs. Eric Bird scored for the toros while Tyler Blackwood got on the score sheet for Arizona.
The Toros started the first half eager to test the Arizona United SC’s defense. RGV’s Jose Escalante came close to putting the Toros ahead in the 18th minute. His shot from a distance impacted the post. The Toros kept pressuring and soon found success. In the 21st minute, Jose Escalante’s through ball beat Arizona United SC’s offside trap and found Eric Bird who blasted it for the Toros goal. Eric Bird has now scored in three consecutive matches.
Arizona United SC’s found success on the Toros missed opportunity in the second half. Jose Escalante dribbled to the end line and passed the ball back to Jose “Memo” Rodriguez who shot the ball straight to the crossbar. After Arizona collected the ball, Chris Cortez’s long cross found Tyler Blackwood who placed the ball into the upper 90 to draw the game even at the 63rd minute. The Toros fought to find the game winning goal but could not find it before the referee’s final whistle.
The Toros will host Orange County Blues on June 26th . The game will kickoff at 7:30p.m. at UTRGV Soccer and Track Complex. Arizona United SC’s next match will be on June 26th against Sacramento Republic FC.
