The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros return from Saint Louis FC with a point. The Toros played to a scoreless draw and collected back-to-back clean sheets.
RGV’s defense was focused from early on in the game. In the 11th minute, Sheldon Sullivan’s sliding tackle blocked Joey Calistri’s shot on goal. Aldo Quintanilla tried to get the offense going for the Toros. In the 17th minute, Matias Zaldivar laid the ball over to Quintanilla. With his back facing towards goal, Quintanilla turned to his right and let it rip with his left foot. His shot went over the crossbar.
Omar Ontiveros was close to getting his third goal of the season in the 25th minute. Off a corner kick, Ontiveros headed in the cross. Although Saint Louis FC’s goalkeeper Tomas Gomez initially spilled the shot, he was about able hold on to the ball. Lewis Hilton’s free kick from near the halfway mark found Kyle Greig inside the Toros’ 18-yard box. Nico Corti was able to save Greig’s header without much struggle.
In the 64th minute, Saint Louis FC came close to scoring. Kadeem Dacres tried chipping the ball over Corti from the left corner of the penalty box. His shot barely missed the top right corner of the goal. In the final minutes of action, Pablo Aguilar collected the ball after Jesus Enriquez had been knocked down. Aguilar dribbled to his right and crossed his shot, aiming for the top, left corner of the goal. Unfortunately for the Toros, his shot was not on target.
Rio Grande Valley kept pushing forward during stoppage time and was almost rewarded with a goal. A lofted cross from a set piece found Gomez out of his line. Omar Ontiveros headed the ball towards Jordan Jones’ direction. Jones took a shot but it was deflected and saved by Tomas Gomez.
The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros return to H-E-B Park and will take on Tulsa Roughnecks FC on July 7th. The match will kick-off at 7:30p.m. After that match, the RGV FC Toros will take on Liga MX Champions, Club Santos Laguna in a friendly on July 11.
