IRVINE, Calif. (August 25, 2018) — Rio Grande Valley FC (3-12-9, 21 points) will travel to Irvine, California to finish off their two-road game against Orange County SC (15-2-6, 50 points). The game will be on Saturday, August 25 and kickoff is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. (CDT) at Championship Soccer Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
The RGV FC will enter the match with a 1-1 draw against LA Galaxy II on Wednesday. Jesus “Chuy” Enriquez, midfielder for the Toros, scored the first goal of the match in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, the Toros allowed Justin Dhillon, forward for Los Dos, equalized the match in the 77th minute where Michael Nelson, goalkeeper for the Toros, gave up his first goal of the season with the team.
Orange County SC enters the match with an eight-match unbeaten streak with four straight wins. The team is also number two in the Western Conference Standings. OC, similarly to the Toros, have traveled to and from Portland after playing on Wednesday where they defeated Portland Timbers 2 with a 3-2 score. Thomas Enevoldsen, forward for Orange County, scored two goals where he leads for the USL Golden Boot. Alex Crognale, defender for Orange County, also scored in the match.
Last time both teams confronted each other, the Toros defeated OC with a 2-0 score. Aldo Quintanilla, forward for the Toros, and Memo Rodriguez, forward for the Houston Dynamo, scored in the match. The RGV FC have had a tough time earning three points on the road this season. “We know that it’s going to be a tough task especially there with OC and being where they are, trying to win the conference, but we can only worry about what we can take care of and hopefully we can take care of business,” Head Coach for the Toros, Gerson Echeverry on how crucial it is to win against a team like OC.
