EDINBURG, Texas (August 29, 2018) –Rio Grande Valley FC has signed midfielder Romilio Hernandez. Hernandez has been added to the active roster is available for selection in tonight’s match against San Antonio FC, the club announced today.
Hernandez, 23, has made six appearances for El Salvador’s U-20 Youth National Team playing 365 minutes. He has scored one goal for El Salvador U-20 Youth National Team during the CONCACAF Championship in 2015 against Canada and made one U-20 World Cup appearance for El Salvador in 2013 against Turkey recording 35 minutes. Hernandez was with Phoenix Rising FC during the 2016-17 season where he started in two matches totaling 113 minutes with the club. Prior to Phoenix, Hernandez played collegiate soccer for Louisville University. At Louisville, he made 77 appearances starting in 69 games. Hernandez scored four goals in his career with the Cardinals.
With the addition of Hernandez, RGV FC now has 30 players on the active roster. The hybrid relationship between the Dynamo and RGV FC in which the Dynamo control all aspects of soccer operations, including employment of the technical staff and player selection, while RGV FC manages the business side of the club, was unique in MLS when RGV FC was launched in 2016 and has quickly been emulated by multiple MLS clubs over the past year.
