EDINBURG, Texas (September 29, 2018) – The Rio Grande Valley FC (7-12-13) finished the home season with a 2-1 win against Fresno FC (8-12-12). Midfielder Jesus Enriquez leads the Toros with six goals in the season.
RGVFC kicked off the last home match with a goal in the 9th minute from a well battled header from Enriquez sent to the bottom left corner. In the 13th minute, Midfielder Luis Gil attempted a shot from outside the box but unfortunately, it was blocked. One minute later, Fresno FC Midfielder Agustin Cazarez had a header sent to the top center post to equalize the match. Forward Carlos Small had two attempts at goal back to back in the 16th and 17th minute starting off with a right footed shot following a corner made by Midfielder Todd Wharton but was sent off too high. Then, he had a shot from the right side of the box to the center of the goal and again, Goalkeeper Mark Pais prevented the Toros from marking the lead. The Toros didn’t stop there, Midfielder Nicolas Perea had an attempt after he stole the ball from Fresno shooting it straight to Pais in the 46th minute.
The Toros kicked off the second half motivated to get the win with an offsides goal made by Small in the 58th minute. Four minutes later, Defender Kyle Adams had an attempt at goal, but the shot hit the bar. Small had another attempt at goal when he sent a right footed shot from the left side of the box but was saved in the bottom left corner of the goal in the 76th minute. The Toros didn’t stop there. In the 84th minute, Enriquez sent a headed pass to Small where he then passed the defending line and shot from the center of the box to the center back of the net marking his third goal of the season. Two minutes later, both Enriquez and Midfielder Pablo Aguilar had shots, but both were blocked.
RGVFC ended the last home game of the 2018 USL season with a well-deserved win. The Toros had 24 total shots, ten shots at goal and nine blocked shots. Enriquez led the team with six total shots, four shots at goal and four key passes. Adams led the team with seven clearances tonight.
The Toros has closed out their home stands but will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma to go against the Roughnecks FC on October 6 at 7 p.m. (CDT).
