EDINBURG, Texas (July 6, 2019) – Rio Grande Valley FC (5-8-5, 20 pts.) draw with Tacoma Defiance (2-11-5, 11 pts.), 0-0, on Saturday night at H-E-B Park.
The first half kicked off with a dangerous attack by the Toros. In the 2nd minute, Camilo Monroy sent a cross to Kevin Rodriguez. Rodriguez then drove in the ball and sent a cross inside the box to Jesus Enriquez. Enriquez managed to head the ball to the goal, but Trey Muse saved it.
Three minutes later, Tacoma tested Houston Dynamo loanee Michael Nelson when Shandon Hopeau took a left-footed shot from the center of the box but missed to the left. The Toros continued to attack upfront as Enriquez shot from outside the box but was blocked in the 21st minute. Right after, Isidro Martinez sent a cross to Kyle Adams where he then shot a left-footed shot but missed to the right.
Adams had another attempt in the 31st minute when he took another left footed shot from outside the box but sent it too high and wide to the right. Tacoma attacked RGV FC goal when Daniel Robles shot from outside the box but missed to the right in the 38th minute.
The Toros didn’t want to go into the half without creating danger. During stoppage time, Enriquez shot from the left side of the box, but Muse saved the attempt for a lead in the top center of the goal.
Dynamo loanee Ronaldo Peña attacked the Defiance goal in the 48th minute when he took a right footed shot from outside the box but missed to the left. In the 55th minute, Aleks Berkolds headed the ball from the center of the box but missed to the right.
Eric Bird, Dynamo loanee, had two back-to-back attempts in the 59th minute. The first attempt was when he shot from outside the box but was blocked. Then, he shot from the right side of the box but missed to the left side of the goal.
Adams had yet another header from the center of the box but missed to the left. In the 80th minute, Carlos Small drove in the ball and took a right footed shot from outside the box but missed to the left. One minute later, Nico Lemoine received a ball from Zach Jackson, where he dribbled inside the box and shot to the top center of the goal, but Muse managed to deflect it out.
RGV FC totaled 19 shots, four at goal including four-headed shots, two of those coming from Adams. The Toros had an 85.1 percent passing accuracy. The Defiance totaled eight shots with 82.5 percent passing accuracy.
Man of the match was Toros captain, Adams, who led the squad with five total shots. He added seven clearances, two tackles, one interception and 90 percent passing accuracy.
Enriquez totaled three shots and two shots on target with an 89.5 percent passing accuracy. He also added four tackles and one clearance.
RGV FC returns to H-E-B Park on Saturday, July 13 as they host Phoenix Rising FC. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. CT. The match will be available on ESPN+ and Somos El Valle 5.2.
