EDINBURG, Texas (Mon., April 6, 2020) – The USL Championship and League One teams kicked off their first-ever USL eCup: Rocket League Edition tournament last week. Rio Grande Valley FC were drawn into Group 4 and will face Copa Tejas rival, El Paso Locomotive FC on Tuesday, April 7 at 3 p.m. CT live on ESPN3.
The first matchup of the group stage was a win for the Toros (1-0) as they defeated the Pittsburg Riverhounds SC (0-1) with an aggregate score of 30-2 in a best-of-three series (2-0) on April 1. Anarbol Villarreal Jr. led the Toros to their first victory, Edson Ochoa is looking to earn the team’s second win tomorrow afternoon.
While RGV FC leads the group stage with 4,327 Rocket League points, El Paso fell 2-0 against San Antonio FC on Wednesday led by goalkeeper Logan Ketterer with an aggregate score of 19-3. Ketterer totaled six saves against SAFC, leading the group. The Locomotive are looking to come out strong against the Toros looking for their first win in the USL eCup: Rocket League tournament.
Each team has been partnered with local charities of their choosing. The tournament will assist by helping to raise funds for the chosen community charities all across the nation.
With the current COVID-19 pandemic, RGV FC chose the RGV Food Bank in order to assist with local efforts being made.
