EDINBURG, Texas (Sunday, July 19, 2020) – The Rio Grande Valley FC (0-2-1) draw 1-1 against San Antonio FC (1-0-1) on Sunday night at H-E-B Park. The matchup marked the first time that live sports returned to action to the RGV since early March.
SAFC kicked off the South Texas Derby with a goal in the 3rd minute after Cristian Parano dribbled down the middle, splitting the back defenders, allowing him to shoot past Paul Blanchette, 0-1.
Before the final whistle during stoppage time, Taiberson Nunes equalized the matchup after he dribbled towards the box, sending a left-footed curled shot to the top corner past the goalkeeper, 1-1.
In the 29th minute, Taiberson nearly equalized after he took a curler shot from outside the box hitting the left post of the goal. James Murphy shot back after the deflection, but Dayne St. Clair managed to save the shot.
After the half, Taiberson kept being a threat for the San Antonio goal as he sent a direct shot from outside the box but managed to get deflected by the keeper in the 48th minute. In the 57th minute, Isidro Martinez took a direct free kick, unfortunately, it hit the left post and clearing out of danger.
During stoppage time Kyle Edwards took a headshot following a corner but the keeper saved on the goal line.
RGV FC totaled 20 shots and three on target with a total of 361 passes made. SAFC totaled 12 shots, four on target while totaling 340 passes.
Taiberson led the match with five total shots, two on target and created two chances. Edwards totaled five shots in 15 minutes of action.
