H-E-B Park was the land of opportunity in the soccer world this past weekend, as athletes from the RGV and beyond flocked to the Toros training fields for their chance at a professional contract.
The first team hopefuls were greeted to a beautiful south Texas morning, with a slight overcast and blissful breeze, however, the intensity was brought as soon as the cleats pierced through the pitch.
The athletes, all draped in white shirts with the RGV silhouette proudly on display over their chests, were divided into 8 teams with 2 sessions per day, teams 1-4 took to the pitch at 1:00 while teams 5-8 finished the afternoon off at 4:30.
Wilmer and company got a firsthand look at the aspiring pros and will take the next few days assessing and finding the right fit for the 2021 RGVFC squad.
This year’s tryout was a historic one, unique from years past, as the newly restructured agreement between RGVFC and Houston Dynamo gives the Toros full operational freedom. Sporting Director and Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera will have the final say on his Toros roster.
Be sure to keep up with the RGVFC Toros via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and be on the lookout for the next installment of “El Camino: The Path to the 2021 Toros Season” as we go further in-depth over this weekend’s tryouts.
