EDINBURG, Texas (Thursday, Mar. 18, 2020) – The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros announced today that forward Kyle Edwards has been selected to the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines National Team for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers this month.
The opening round of qualifying consists of 35 FIFA-affiliated national teams from Concacaf which were seeded based on the 2020 FIFA rankings, then put into seven five-team groups. St. Vincent and the Grenadines was drawn into Group C along with Curacao, Guatemala, Cuba and the British Virgin Islands.
The competition for Vincy Heat begins on Thursday, March 25 as they face Curacao first at 7 p.m. CT, followed with a match against the British Virgin Island on Tuesday, March 30 at 6 p.m. CT. Both matches will be played in Curacao.
Edwards has previously earned 15 senior caps for the St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The 23-year-old debuted in a 4-0 win over Anguilla on Sept. 5, 2014 in the Caribbean Cup Qualification tournament. The forward finished with a game-winning assist in his last appearance with the National Team, a 1-0 victory against Trinidad and Tobago on Aug. 11, 2019.
Edwards made 11 appearances while earning five starts during his first professional campaign with RGV FC last season. He finished the 2020 campaign with goals in each of the final three matches of the Toros’ season – beginning with a sixth-minute tally in the 4-2 victory against OKC Energy FC on Oct. 3, 2020.
