EDINBURG, Texas (Friday, May 28, 2021) – Rio Grande Valley FC (3-1-0, 9 pts.) visits San Antonio FC (2-1-1, 7 pts.) on Saturday, May 29 for the second face-off of the season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CST and will be live on ESPN+.
RGV FC took the first win of the 2021 season against SAFC earlier this month with a 2-1 final score. Both sides will battle for the first spot of the Mountain Division this Saturday which RGV will need to earn three points at Toyota Field in order to continue to lead the division.
RGV FC: The Toros lost their first road game of the season but look to bounce back this Saturday. With Elvis Amoh out on suspension, RGV FC will need an attacker to be dominant enough to help the squad go home with three points. RGV FC has scored four goals, while conceding two goals, one by SAFC, and have kept two clean sheets. Individually, Rodrigo Lopez leads the squad with nine created opportunities throughout four matches. Christian Sorto and Wan Kuzain lead the attacking efforts with six total shots each. Adrian Diz Pe has totaled 20 clearances while having intercepted seven attempts. Along with Diz Pe, Grant Robinson (7 clearances, 11 interceptions, 11 tackles), Erik Pimentel (8 clearances, 3 interceptions, 3 tackles) and Carter Manley (8 clearances, 5 inte3rceptions, 6 tackles) will be key on Saturday’s matchup in order to come out with a win.
SAFC: Santiago Patiño leads the league with five total goals – one having been conceded by RGV. Collectively, San Antonio ranks 5th in goals scored (8) in the USL with eight but has a 20.0% conversion rate. Defensively Matt Cardone has only conceded five goals, two by RGV, thus far and has kept one clean sheet. Competing at Toyota Field makes it difficult for any rival to go home with three points, giving San Antonio an advantage over RGV as they have only been able to win twice as a visitor.
