COLORADO SPRINGS, Col.  (September 15, 2018)  The Rio Grande Valley FC (5-11-13) earned one point versus Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (10-15-5) in a 1-1 final. Goalkeeper Michael Nelson earned three crucial saves for the Toros.

RGVFC kicked off the game with an attempt from Forward Carlos Small in the 6th minute when he took a right footed shot from outside the box, but unfortunately, the shot was blocked. One minute later, Forward Aldo Quintanilla tried a through ball to Small but was caught offside. The Switchbacks turned it over when Midfielder Jordan Schweitzer sent a ball to Forward Saeed Robinson where he then shot from outside the box to the top right corner to the back of the net marking the first goal of the match in the 8th minute. The Toros didn’t stop pushing after the lead from the Switchbacks. Small took a shot from outside the box in the 11th minute but sent it too high. In the 37th minute, Small sent a ball to Quintanilla where he took a chance at goal on the right, but the shot was saved center top. The Switchbacks attempted to get a two-goal lead when Forward Mason Toye managed to beat Toros defenders leading him with a one-to-one play with Defender Kyle Adams, but Nelson came out with a key save not allowing him to get beat by Toye.

The Toros knew they had to send a ball to the back of the net in order to not return home pointless. Midfielder Todd Wharton took a shot from outside the box to the bottom left corner in the 53rd minute but Switchbacks Goalkeeper Pouaty saved the shot. Two minutes later, Robinson attempted to take RGVFC defending line, but Defender AJ de la Garza defended clean deflecting that he managed to prevent Robinson to take a chance at goal. In the 71st minute, Midfielder Pablo Aguilar sent a cross over to Forward Jesus Enriquez inside the box where he crossed to Midfielder Nicolas Perea who headed it to the back of the center goal net, equalizing the match. The Switchbacks attempted to get the lead again in the 81st minute when Midfielder Jordan Burt sent a through ball to Defender Jamal Jack who sent a dangerous header to the bottom right side and fortunately for the Toros, Nelson marked another save. In stoppage time, Switchbacks Defender Ayukokata Tambe striked from a distance of more than 35 yards out but missed to the bottom right of the goal.

RGVFC defending line was solid for tonight’s match where Defender Conor Donovan led the team with seven clearances and Adams with six.
