The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (7,5,9) and OKC Energy FC (8,3,9) played to a 0-0 draw on Saturday, August 6th. The Toros had five shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net.
Rio Grande Valley FC Toros started the game seeking to get shots on goal. The first shot came in the 8th minute when Toros’ Kevin Garcia passed the ball to Robert “TJ” Casner who sent it over the crossbar. Casner got a chip towards the net in the 22nd minute. OKC’s goalkeeper, Cody Laurendi, came up with the big save to keep the score line even.
In the 29th minute, Jose Escalante tried his luck to get Rio Grande Valley a goal. His shot from outside of the box went wide to the right. Energy FC would have an opportunity in the 43rd minute. Michael Byskov had a chance from up close but Toros’ goalkeeper, Callum Irving, broke up the play.
Charlie Ward almost put the Toros ahead in the 59th minute. His laser of a shot from a distance forced Cody Laurendi to dive and go full stretch for the save. In the 70th minute, Yair Arboleda almost scored a goal on his debut for the Toros. His shot was deflected and bounced towards the OKC goalkeeper. RGV’s Jose Escalante’s header hit the crossbar in the 79th minute after an Emilio Garcia placed an excellent cross.
Toros kept the offensive push and almost found the back of the net in the 82nd minute. Charlie Ward’s through pass found Dzenan Catic who shot towards goal. OKC’s Cody Laurendi came off his line for the save. In the 84thminute, Rio Grande Valley had an opportunity to break the deadlock after the ball kept bouncing around the box and slipped through OKC’s Laurendi. The ball found Catic who shot but was blocked on the goal line by the Energy FC defense.
The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros did not concede a goal in the month of July and continued with the clean sheet in tonight’s match. The Toros have totaled 450 minutes without seeing an opponent score on them. The Toros finish their five home back-to-back matches next week when Seattle Sounders FC 2 comes to town on Saturday, August 13 at 7:30p.m. OKC Energy FC will be hosting LA Galaxy II on Saturday, August 13th as well.
