Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (7,5,9) will be hosting Seattle Sounders FC 2 (7,9,6) at the Practice Fields at H-E-B Park on Saturday, August 13. The match will kickoff at 7:30p.m.
Both teams will be heading into the game on hot streaks. The Toros are undefeated in the last five games and have also kept a clean sheet in all five of those games. Seattle is currently in a six game undefeated streak with a total of four wins and two draws.
Rio Grande Valley FC Toros played to a 0-0 draw last Saturday, August 6th against OKC Energy FC. The Toros had most of the possession and was the team with the most opportunities to score. RGV’s Robert “TJ” Casner forced OKC’s goalkeeper, Cody Laurendi, to keep a shot out in the 22nd minute. Rio Grande’s Charlie Ward tested Laurendi from a distance. Ward shot a laser and almost found the opening goal if it was not for Laurendi’s save.
Toros forward, Jose Escalante, hit the crossbar on a header in the 78th minute after Emilio Garcia sent a beautiful, curling cross. Dzenan Catic had two opportunities in the winding minutes of the game but his shots were deflected by Energy FC’s defense.
Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 drew 1-1. The match took place on Saturday, August 6 at UCB Thunderbird Stadium. Seattle would go ahead in the 36th minute with a Zach Mathers goal. Vancouver would score in the second half to pull both teams even. Daniel Haber’s shot would find its way to the back of the net in the 54th minute.
After hosting five consecutive home matches, the Toros will be traveling to face Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field. That match will take place on Thursday, August 18 with a start time set at 7:30p.m. Seattle Sounders FC 2 will stay in Texas and plat San Antonio FC the following Saturday, August 20.
