The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros will kickoff their home opener against in-state rival San Antonio FC on March 26. The first ever soccer match hosted at H-E-B Park will feature both Texas teams as they prepare to start the season on a winning note.
The match will be the fifth ever encounter between the two teams, in the heated rivalry dubbed the “South Texas Derby.” The Toros remain undefeated against San Antonio. In the last encounter, RGV defeated San Antonio 3-0 at home and knocked them out of playoffs.
The home opener will be the first game to be played at the 9,700-capacity stadium. Complete with full-kitchen concessions, an amphitheater, and luxury suites, H-E-B Park will lead the league in infrastructure.
The USL is expecting to release the full season schedule in the upcoming days. The 2017 USL regular season schedule will see teams play 32 matches contested over 30 weeks, with the regular season starting on March 24-26 and concluding the weekend of October 13-15. Teams will play each of their conference rivals at least twice, one home and one away.
