The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros and Los Angeles Galaxy II played to a 1-1 draw. Kyle Murphy scored the goal for the RGV FC Toros while Justin Dhillon scored for Galaxy II.
Kyle Murphy almost put the Toros ahead early in the game. After taking on a defender, Murphy’s shot barely went wide in the 3rd minute. Todd Wharton found himself going one-on-one against LA’s goalkeeper Clement Diop. Unfortunately his shot missed the target and he was not able to put the Toros ahead in the 18th minute.
Calle Brown denied Los Angeles from scoring in the 35th minute. Brown left his line and slid in for the save. A minute later, Kyle Murphy measured Emilio Garcia’s cross and slotted in his shot for a goal to send the Toros ahead at the half.
The Toros kept most of the possession in the second half. Los Angeles Galaxy II found the equalizer in the 71st minute of a deadly counter-attack. Ethan Zuback passed the ball back to Justin Dhillon who kicked the ball into an open net.
Los Angeles were down to 10 men after Alejandro Covarrubias collected his second yellow in the 88th minute. The Toros were close to finding the game-winning goal in the dying seconds of the game. Eric Bird tapped the ball away from Diop, Galaxy II’s goalkeeper, but LA’s Bradford Jamieson cleared the ball away before Bird could score.
Rio Grande Valley next game is on June 3rd. The Toros hit the road and face Sacramento Republic FC before facing Reno 1868 FC.
