Sacramento Republic FC 6-2 defeated The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros in midweek action. TJ Casner and Kyle Murphy scored the goals for the Toros.
Rio Grande Valley had the first opportunity to score early in the game. In the second minute of action, Emilio Garcia’s dangerous cross from a set piece did not find the appropriate contact when Robbie Sagel’s shot went out of bounds. Sacramento had their first dangerous play in the 10th minute. Trevin Caesar set up Tyler Backwood after beating the defense, but Borja Angoitia saved the shot.
Sacramento Republic FC scored their first goal in the 18th minute. A through ball by Agustin Cazarez set up Wilson Kneeshaw who chipped the ball over Angoitia for the first goal of the night. A rabona pass set up Tyler Blackwood who doubled Sacramento’s lead in the 26th minute. Caesar scored his first of the night in the first half to send Republic FC on top 3-0 at the break.
Trevin Caesar scored his second of the night eleven minutes into the second half. After dribbling through the right side of the field, Caesar shot the ball across and put it in the bottom left corner of the goal. TJ Casner pulled one back for the Toros in the 64th minute. Casner’s free kick found the back of the net after slicing through the wall of players.
Caesar finished off his hat trick in the 71st minute. Caesar got behind the defense once again and got the best of Angoitia for Sacramento’s fifth goal. Dan Trickett-Smith scored the final goal fro Sacramento in the 87th minute with a volley. Kyl Murphy scored the second goal for the Toros in stoppage time. His shot came off a corner kick. After a deflection, Murphy’s swung and kicked the ball into the net.
Rio Grande Valley travel to Weidner Field on July 1st to face off against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
