Rio Grande is coming off a big win at home, having “surprised” Sacramento Republic FC at H-E-B Park. On paper RGV was tabbed the underdog, but the pure determination and grit of the RGV FC roster proved to be too much for Republic FC on April 23. The Toros earned the 2-1 victory behind two great shots from Luka Malesevic and Dylan Borczak.
Luka Malesevic and Frank Nodarse earned a spot on the Week 7 USL Championship Team of The Week.
Key Players:
RGVFC:
Dylan Borczak– The 20-year-old Detroit native has shaken defenses with his shifty ability and closing speed. Last match he scored the game winner in stoppage time after coming into the game as a substitute. Borczak came into the club as a mature piece offensively and has complimented well with Frank Lopez, the USL Championship veteran who is two matches shy of 100 appearances.
OC:
Sean “Ugo” Okoli – proved to be the most dangerous player in the first match on March 19 in the 1-2 loss for RGV FC. Okoli entered the match as a substitute and scored a brace to lock in the first and only win for Orange County thus far. Look for the speedy forward to disrupt the rhythm on April 30 as they look to ruin the home party for RGV.
