Staying In the Hunt:
Rio Grande Valley F.C:
The Toros suffered a loss at the hands of a physical and determined San Antonio FC at H-E-B Park on May 28th, 2-3, which left a need to bounce back and show their true contention in the standings as they once again decide a match by just one goal. As has become evident, RGV have no trouble staying in matches and troubling the “strong” opponents they face.
This mid-week matchup with a struggling Atlanta United 2 side should serve as a needed confidence boost offensively as new attacking and experienced pieces became available for Wilmer Cabrera to experiment with in the likes of Adolfo Hernandez (on loan from Liga MX side Pumas U.N.A.M) and Jose ‘Gringo’ Torres, a veteran midfielder who has seen time at Liga MX (Tigres) and the USMNT ranks, including minutes in the 2010 World Cup.
Ten different players have scored for RGV FC, a club record, and there is likely no stopping any time soon as the team possesses and distributes the ball well. A slight adjustment to the back line should see the Toros make the shift to a very strong side to be weary of these next few matches.
Atlanta United 2:
The Eastern Conference side has struggled to stay in matches as of late, having gone 0-4-1 in their last five matches. There is a concerning ratio on the goal scored to conceded stat line; United 2 have scored just 8 goals and conceded 24 on the season which is something that RGV look to expose on Wednesday evening. With RGV scoring double the goals as them, they must look to limit the damage and hold the score line to a minimum to stay in the match.
