EDINBURG, Texas (June 29, 2022) – Rio Grande Valley F.C (7-8-2) clashed with El Paso Locomotive (8-6-5) on Wednesday, June 29 at H-E-B Park. The two sides traded blows but were unable to break the net as they shot four on target a piece, ending the match notched at, 0-0. Garcia ended the night with four saves and a clean sheet, in his third career start.
RGV FC had their first approach at the 11th minute as Ricky Ruiz intercepted a pass and sent a quick pass into the center of the box to a closing Emilio Ycaza, 0-0.
At the 18th minute, Ruiz took a direct shot at goal from just outside the box which forced Evan Newton to make the save at the goal line to send it clear at corner, 0-0.
Frank David Gaviria attempted a diving header at goal at the 21st but was denied by Newton, who cradled the ball safely at the line, 0-0.
Locomotive FC made their first danger approach at the 23rd minute as Dylan Mares charged the box and sent a shot to the center of the goal, where Javier Garcia stopped the danger by blocking and cradling the ball on the ground, 0-0.
Ycaza snuck into the box and sent a direct shot at goal but was denied by Newton at the 39th minute to keep things even as the opening half neared its end, 0-0.
The Toros outshot El Paso, 11-4 in the half with four shots going to goal as the action packed first half closed off.
El Paso had a clear danger chance as Josue Gomez bounced one off the crossbar, shooting from the left end of the field at an angle but the ball hit clear to keep in tied at, 0-0 in the 76th minute.
From the 82nd minute on, El Paso played with ten men after Yuma was sent off for accumulation of yellow cards after dissent on a call inside the box created a scuffle, which resulted in Adolfo Hernandez picking up a yellow as well.
Javier Garcia was forced to make a save at the line as a fast-closing Sebastian Velasquez entered the box and sent a hard shot at goal at the 96th minute to keep the match locked at, 0-0. Garcia earned the clean sheet on the night as the Toros locked in a point at home.
Rio Grande outshot El Paso 16-8 at the end of the night, with both teams placing four shots on target.
