EDINBURG, Texas (Saturday, May 27, 2023) – Rio Grande Valley FC (2-3-5) will welcome Eastern Conference side Charleston Battery (6-2-3) to H-E-B Park on Saturday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m. CST.
Rio Grande Valley FC have not been able to find a home win, and the team is growing eager in showing their home fans that they are more than capable of closing results to earn big points at home.
This coming matchup is another very tough test for RGV FC as they host the top seeded team in the league, Charleston Battery. The Battery are coming off a minimal win after defeating Monterey Bay Union 1-0 to bounce back from a loss that left them stunned at home to San Antonio FC, 7-0.
Sporting Director Wilmer Cabrera agreed in midweek discussions with the media that the mental aspect is top priority for his team this Saturday. The team has showed well and is able to create chances and control the match rhythm when the games are equal at zero, but once the team shows a one goal deficit the playstyle suffers and allows for offensive growth from opponents just as it happened on May 20 against Tampa Bay when the visitors grew to a devastating 3-0 victory at H-E-B Park.
As more pieces become available offensively for the Toros, the chemistry grows and bigger shot risks are taken which can easily translate to goals and give the home side a needed boost. Frank Lopez has logged more minutes as of late and has become a sure fire choice as a substitute for Christiano Francois who has notched two goals on the season.
The key to this match is patience and playing a strong full 90-plus minute, much like the San Diego Loyal match where a late scare was held off to earn their last victory in three matches.
