EDINBURG, Texas (March 8, 2022) – Rio Grande Valley FC announced today the acquisition of defender Stefan Mueller via transfer from USL League One club South Georgia Tormenta FC for an undisclosed fee, pending league and federation approval.
Mueller (6-foot-1, defender) closed out the 2021 USL League One season as the fourth-leading scorer for Tormenta FC, serving as an attacking defender. The 26-year-old scored four goals and spread the field with 13 created chances and a lone assist in 18 appearances in 2021. Defensively, Mueller recorded 21 clearances, made eight tackles, and logged 11 interceptions.
“Stefan is a strong and solid defender with a very good mentality to defend and attack on the left side of the field”; said RGV FC Sporting Director and Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera. “His movement and runs are very smart and important for the team.”
Mueller joined Tormenta FC in 2020 following a collegiate career at Temple University. He made 34 appearances and played 2,780 minutes over the last two seasons. The New York native saw early career experience in Europe with TB Uphusen in Germany and Southport FC of England’s National League North.
In an already solid defensive group, Mueller looks to fit the dynamic line and provide additional pressure in midfield for the Toros which will allow for a smooth transition field-wide and chance creation in the attacking third of the field.
